| If you had H$ bulbs in your car you could buy an HID kit to fit in the headlamp housing (H4 housing) but you would loose your High beam. I have seen the same kits but they have a soleniod cover which lifts when high beam is engaged. Anyone have any idea how it works? Any experiences? |

On the H4, I believe the top section of the reflector provides the low beam and the lower part the high beam. So a HID bulb in a H4 application has a shield underneath the capsule to prevent light from hitting the lower portion of the reflector, hence you only have low beam. New bi-xenon (HI/LOW) H4 kits have a solenoid that moves the shield from underneath the HID bulb allowing light to hit the lower section of the reflector and you have high beams. I don't know from experience how effective this is but considering HID bulbs throw unusable light downwards, I doubt the high beam pattern will be as good as the low beam.
